Open Issues Over time for the Past 30 Days (Snapshot)

Open Issues Over time for the Past 30 Days (Snapshot)

This report provides a snapshot of open issues over the past 30 days, visualizing how the number of unresolved issues has changed over time. It helps teams track the trend of open issues, providing insights into workload fluctuations and identifying periods of backlog or resource strain.

Step 1: Add a data source to filter for issues that were in your relevant statuses during the past 30 days, using the ‘Status was’ criteria:

Step 2: Select ‘Number of issues over time in status’ metric and specify the same statuses as defined in the data source.

Switch from Full time to Snapshot in time counting mode.

Step 3: Display by ‘Status change date’ field

Step 4: Stack by ‘Status (history)’* field.

*To ensure accurate issue counting, the ‘Status (history)’ field is disabled for “Stack by” selection in Full-time counting mode. This is because an issue can occupy multiple statuses during the same period, and stacking its history in full time would result in duplicated counts.

Let’s explain the two counting modes available for the 'Number of issues over time in status' metric:

  • count of issues in certain status/es as a Snapshot in time, i.e. at the very last moment of the selected granularity. If you have chosen status ‘In Progress’ and your granularity is ‘by day’ for the past 30 days to today, your chart will show all issues that were in status ‘In Progress’ at the end of every day.

  • count of issues with counting mode Full time: If you have chosen status ‘In Progress’ and your granularity is ‘by day’ for the past 30 days to today, your chart will show all issues that were in status ‘In Progress’ during the selected day, no matter that they may have been closed by the end of it.

The Performance Objectives app also provides a ‘Number of issues over time in Assignee’ metric. Similar to the ‘Number of issues over time in status’ metric, it supports two counting modes: Full Time or Snapshot. An assignee-based snapshot report can help answer, “Who owned how many issues at a given point in time?” and is useful for understanding workload distribution and ownership trends over time.

This metric is automatically displayed by ‘Assignee change date’ field, and allows grouping or stacking by an ‘Assignee (history)’ field, depending on the selected counting mode.
